In June, the Douglas County Democratic Committee held elections for seats in the local party, welcoming several newcomers and one returning seat member.
The committee is proud to welcome new seat holders James Anagnostakis, Cynthia Bigby, Nicole Jones, Ceary Lloyd, Monica Lloyd, Dondell Patterson and returning seat holder E.J. Westley.
The committee also elected members to the Democratic Party of Georgia’s state committee: Ferrow Bridges and Ross Laver, as well as returning state committee member Sonia Turner.
Seats on the county committee are apportioned by county commission district.
Anagnostakis, who will represent District 4 on the committee — as well as Jones and Patterson, elected to District 3 seats — are attorneys with local election experience. Bigby, elected to District 1, is a middle school paraprofessional for a local school district. Ceary Lloyd, a senior operations leader at an area logistics firm, and his wife, Monica Lloyd, a demand planner and supply chain expert with a national distribution company, have joined to represent District 2. Westley, who was elected to one of the committee’s at large seats, has spent more than 30 years between the government and private sectors, bringing experience to the committee working with the regional chapters of the NAACP and the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), as well as a certified mediator and conciliator and a subject matter expert on civil rights and diversity.
“I’m extremely proud of the diversity of the backgrounds and professional experience of the people who have decided to join our fight,” said Tony Montcalm, chair of the Douglas County Democratic Committee. “We’re in for a major contest for the future of our county, our state and our nation. Electing Democratic candidates up and down the ballot is essential to defending our democracy, and we have the right people stepping forward to lead the work.”
County committee elections are held every two years — half the seats on gubernatorial election years and half on presidential election years. Any registered Douglas County voter who is an avowed Democrat may participate in committee elections.
