Douglas Dems Elect New Leadership

The leadership of the Douglas County Democratic Committee has some new faces.

On Dec. 13, committee members convened to elect new officers to its executive committee, locking in leadership that will guide the committee through a busy year with the governor’s mansion and a U.S. Senate seat on the line.

Tony Montcalm — previously the first vice chair for the executive committee — was elected chair. Before becoming formally involved with the committee, Montcalm was a 2002 Democratic candidate for District 4 on the Douglas County Board of Commissioners. He’s also served as a county delegate to the Democratic Party of Georgia.

Ferrow Bridges, a longtime active member of the committee and formerly the committee’s parliamentarian, was elected to the first vice chair position. Area activist Jeremy Jermaine was elected third vice chair, a post vacated by former vice chair Joel Brock.

Cindy Fedack, who’s long been involved in the county committee, retained her post as second vice chair.

“This is an exciting time for our committee,” said Montcalm, who grew up in Winston. “We’ve been blessed with leadership who saw the way to turn our county blue. We’re going to hold that line and push forward to make change felt throughout Georgia.”

Montcalm will serve the unexpired term of former chair Robin Zuniga-Ortega, who is stepping down to dedicate time to other Democratic causes.
