Douglas Dems Hosting ‘Shop n’ Drop’ Donation Drive Nov. 28

As area residents struggle through difficult economic times, the Democratic Committee of Douglas County continues to offer support to local residents.

The committee will host a “Shop n’ Drop” donation drive at Arbor Place Mall on Black Friday, Nov. 28. The event will last from 10 a.m. to noon at the large Arbor Place sign on the Douglas Boulevard side of the mall.

“Black Friday is often about consumerism — but the spirit of the season is about giving,” said Robin Zuniga-Ortega, chair of the Douglas County Democratic Committee. “Our neighbors need help, and our party is about lifting people up and helping those who need it.”

Donations will be given to the Good Samaritan Center in Douglasville, which has supported and coordinated relief for county residents since 1984. Recently, the committee contributed $2,000 of its funds to the center to support their relief mission.

Among the items needed are canned or dried meats; canned beans; canned vegetables; pasta and pasta sauce; baby formula; diapers (size 3 and larger); soap; toothbrushes; travel-sized toiletries; and feminine hygiene products.

The Good Samaritan Center also accepts monetary donations through its website, goodsamaritan-center.org. Donations are tax-deductible.

“We welcome this opportunity to support our community,” said Zuniga-Ortega. “Democrats care.”
