Mickey Medina receiving Phil Davis Award in 2025

She was a Democratic Party faithful and the 2025 Recipient of the Phil Davis Award for long-term service to the Douglas County Democratic Party.

Her many years of volunteer campaigning for our candidates and issues advocacy work merits recognition and note.

In Douglas County, she was the person that brought the public transit proposition to then-Vice Chair Kelly Robinson, who was her county commissioner.

Although her family was deeply rooted in Atlanta, Mickey was brought up in New York City. She was one of the first women of color to become a train engineer in the public transit system (subway) in NYC, as well as, Shop Steward for the union. She also ran her small business, while raising her only child, after becoming a widow.

She was active in the Golden Years Club, Democratic Women’s Council, Douglas Women Unite and sat on the Douglas County Para-Transit Board.

Her memory will be cherished by her son, John (his wife) , two grandsons, a brother, her aunt and uncle, several nieces, cousins, and countless friends, including Sweetpea.
